It has been quite some time since we have blogged! But, this is a very busy time of year for us at our new home. Last time this year we were thinking of putting a raised bed in our backyard of our old house. This year our focus right now has been fencing in our garden, which is bigger than our last backyard. We took down fencing from another place on the property and repurposed it for our garden fence. It's not quite done yet, but we are certainly coming along! Seedlings that were planted last month, started strong, but are having issues this month due to the number of cloudy days so far. All I can say is that we better have some nice May flowers!! I am looking forward growing a garden this year!
In exciting bee news, Gene, our beekeeper, has stopped by several times to check on the hives. It seems McElroy acres is no match for Colony Collapse Disorder, as two of the five hives on the property died this winter. Gene is going to bring in more hives, after he ventures to Georgia to pick up new queens. I am learning a lot about bees and really enjoying it. I think they are very fascinating creatures...
In interior house news, we painted a chalk wall in the living room. My neices came over and it was a huge hit! It is fun and creative and a great addition to the room.
We also have been working on the basement as well, but we have yet to unpack all of our boxes!!!
Most of our time has been spent outside though. It is great to see green and now other colors popping up out of the dead woods that we played in for the last 4 months. There are plants springing up from the ground, our apple trees are starting to bud, bulbs flowering. It is such an invigorating time of year. Suspense over how conditions will be for this coming season and excitement for the fruits of your labor. Longer days, and more time to play in the woods. So with that being said, time for bed so I can get up with the sun to play!

Oh my gosh, you busy, busy girl. It is so cool to hear that you have bees! We drove by your house on the way home from the airport, it was a blur, but is was so cute. I love your picture of Josh covered in little girls...silly.
ReplyDeleteSuch an exciting time for you and Josh. I can't wait to see your garden and walk the path through the woods. You guys are doing such a great job on your new property. I love reading about the bees. Sorry two hives didn't make it this winter. Thanks for sharing pics of the girls too. They're getting so big.
